(:1) Evacuees. During 1942 it was agreed that expenditure incurred by the Indian Government on providing the necessary financial assistance to refugees including Europeans from Hong Kong should be recovered from Hong Kong Government funds in London. At the same time the Government of India accepted full responsibility for the relief of refugees of Indian origin save as regards

as regards dependants of Indian officials in Malaya.

(ii) Released civilian internees

The

Colonial Office accepted responsibility on behalf of the Colonial Governments for defraying any necessary expenditure incurred by the Government of India in connection with the welfare and repatriation of British and Foreign European civilians liberated in Hong Kong and other South East Asia Colonial territories in 1945. It was later agreed that this arrangement should apply also in the case of non- Europeans liberated in Hong Kong. The costs incurred in connection with Foreign Nationals will of course be taken up with the Foreign Office.
